PlatformQ Health partners with the National Pancreas Foundation to create new, interactive resources for families managing cancer.

PlatformQ Health, the leading provider of live-online video-based education for patients and caregivers, announces the release of a new program designed for people who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and their loved ones. Pancreatic Cancer: Facing Your Disease with Hope and Knowledge was co-created with the National Pancreas Foundation and will air live on CancerCoachLive.com November 8, 2018 at 11am ET, just in time for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Participants who join the session will hear from a panel of top clinicians and patients, be able to submit questions and receive answers in real-time, vote in live polls throughout the program, and more. Interested patients can register to join the free live program, or watch on-demand through May 2019.

“Receiving any cancer diagnosis is shocking and confusing, but pancreatic cancer is exceptionally challenging – signs and symptoms often do not occur until advanced stages, so it can go undetected for a long period of time and only be discovered after it has spread,” shared Matt Alsante, Executive Director at the National Pancreas Foundation. “At the same time, there is a lot of progress being made: we’re getting better at understanding the risks and genetics behind pancreatic cancer, as well as how to diagnose and treat it. Research findings and advancements are published on an ongoing basis, and we’re happy to be able to provide updated information to those most impacted through this new program.”

During the live online event, panelists Eileen M. O’Reilly, MD of Weill Cornell Medicine, Christi Marie Walsh, MSN, CRNP of Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Joseph M. Titlebaum of the National Pancreas Foundation will walk patients and caregivers through several topics, including:

  • The biology, diagnosis, and stages of pancreatic cancer
  • Different treatment options available for advanced pancreatic cancer
  • The risks of and strategies to treat and manage relapse
  • Techniques and tips to minimize side effects and maximize quality of life

The educational program will also include the patient perspective, featuring two patient vignettes, a staple of CancerCoachLive activities.

“We launched CancerCoachLive in 2016 to empower patients and their caregivers. To date, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with exemplary advocacy groups to release programs on different types of cancer including B-cell non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, bladder cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, carcinoid syndrome, follicular lymphoma, and general topics like the importance of participating in clinical trials,” explained PlatformQ Health CEO Robert Rosenbloom. “PlatformQ Health remains steadfast in our commitment to providing reliable and easy-to-understand information for people and families managing cancer. We’re pleased to partner with National Pancreas Foundation to meet the needs of this community.”

In addition to education for patients and caregivers managing cancer, PlatformQ Health operates OMedLive – a dedicated learning channel for healthcare professionals in the oncology space. More information about the PlatformQ Health network can be found at http://www.platformqhealth.com.

Support for this patient education program was provided by an independent grant from Celgene.
