The newest medical learning channel from the PlatformQ Health network, DiabetesCoachLive, provides free outcomes-oriented diabetes education for patients and caregivers at no cost

PlatformQ Health, the leading provider of outcomes-oriented medical education programs aimed at improving patient care, is pleased to announce the creation of DiabetesCoachLive – a new digital channel that will provide scientifically sound, easy-to-understand video education for people living with diabetes and people involved with their care. The first interactive program to be featured will be New Long-Acting Insulins for the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes: Patient Perspectives, and will air live online Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 12:00 pm EST.

This hour-long program will cover:

  •          Why people get type 2 diabetes and how the treatment changes over time
  •         The different insulin options now available, their benefits and possible side effects
  •         How the newer long-acting insulins can be used to treat Type 2 diabetes
  •         Talking with your healthcare team about your insulin treatment, and if long-acting insulins might be a good option for you

Participants can submit questions to the panel through the program’s QBoard prior to the program, or through the live Q&A section of DiabetesCoachLive’s site while watching the live broadcast. Those interested in joining the live event can save a seat, or receive the program on-demand to watch at their own convenience through November 2018.

The program’s diverse panel includes top physicians, a nurse educator, and a patient, who will each contribute an important perspective on diabetes management throughout the program. Panelists include Dr. Richard Beaser, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Senior Physician & Medical Director, Continuing Medical Education at Joslin Diabetes Center, Dr. Lyle Mitzner, an Endocrinology and Diabetes Specialist at Joslin Diabetes Center and Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Mary Paschal, RN, MS, CDE, Nurse Educator at Joslin Diabetes Center.

“People with diabetes who have a good working knowledge of Type 2 diabetes are more engaged in their own care, better able to participate in treatment decision making, and have better glycemic control,” shared Dr. Beaser. “Education that improves people’s knowledge of the properties and uses of these new insulins, including how they fit in with standard insulins and other type 2 diabetes therapies, will improve their abilities to work together with the providers on managing their condition.”

This program for people with diabetes is part of an aligned educational initiative, reaching both patients and clinicians about these new therapeutic options and their benefits through targeted education. As with all PlatformQ Health education, the program on DiabetesCoachLive includes systems to measure the outcomes and impact it has on learners.

“We are pleased to continue our work with Joslin Diabetes Center, developing educational programs to help both patients and clinicians understand the perspectives and concerns of the other, and improve clinical care interactions,” shared PlatformQ Health President & CEO, Robert Rosenbloom. “Education that bridges the gap between clinician and patient understanding of a condition like diabetes helps ensure that patients get the treatments they need in a timely fashion.”

Dr. Beaser underscored the importance of programs that inform both halves of the doctor-patient relationship on the same topic, noting “It’s as important for clinicians to understand the pharmacology of the treatments and have an academically balanced evaluation of their adverse effect profile, as it is for people who have diabetes to have a reality check on their perceptions of side effects and treatment options. When both groups have the information they need, they can work together to develop a treatment plan that optimizes physiologic glycemic control.”

This educational initiative is presented by Joslin Diabetes Center in joint providership with PlatformQ Health Education.
